About this guide

Homestead Exemption Guide shows how much the homestead exemption is worth, who qualifies and how to apply, by state and county.

Where the numbers come from

Every amount, date and rule comes from an official source: state statutes, state revenue and tax agencies, and county assessor, appraisal district or property appraiser websites. Each page lists its sources and the date we last checked them.

What “Not in our data” means

When an official source did not confirm a value, we leave it blank and say so. We do not guess, average or copy a figure from another county. A blank never means the amount is zero.

Savings estimates

We show a savings estimate only when a fixed dollar exemption applies to a taxing unit and that unit's adopted tax rate is published officially. The page shows both inputs and the math. Percent exemptions, caps and credits do not get an estimate.

Coverage

This version covers 51 state guides and 192 county guides. More counties are added as their official pages are checked.

Not a government site

This is an independent guide. It is not affiliated with any government agency and it is not legal or tax advice. Always confirm with the official source linked on each page before you file.
