New applicants and late filers can enroll from the first Monday in January through December 31, and filed means received by the Auditor's office, not postmarked. The Auditor is taking late-filer applications for tax year 2025 through December 31, 2026.

Lorain County commissioners voted June 30, 2026 to rescind the county's local homestead 'piggyback' credit because of Ohio House Bill 479. The Auditor says HB 479's one-time credit, estimated at about $450 to $475, will show as a second homestead credit on tax year 2026 bills mailed in January 2027.
