Johnson County says a Homestead, SAFESR or SVR refund claim must be filed with the Kansas Department of Revenue each year between January 1 and April 15.

Kansas has no general homestead exemption; homeowners get state refunds instead (Homestead K-40H, SAFESR K-40PT or SVR K-40SVR), and you can claim only one. If you file income taxes, the homestead claim goes in with your state return; the County Clerk (913-715-0775) helps with homestead questions.
